Collector's knife with DSC® rose damascus stainless Damascus bladeThe handle scales of this elegant Laguiole model are crafted from fossilised mammoth molar, with a blue layer providing a striking accent. Mineral deposits bring out the beautiful pattern. The last great mammoths became extinct only 8,000 to 10,000 years ago.The colouring varies naturally. Today, mammoth ivory, molars and mammoth bones are found primarily on the Siberian Arctic coast. Export is only permitted following a scientific assessment and with the appropriate licence. However, mammoth ivory is not subject to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species and may be traded freely. The material’s beautiful structure and elegant lustre are unique. The blade and the knife’s handle have been finished by hand with fine filing work. The handle material itself is a real eye-catcher, but the icing on the cake of this exclusive knife is undoubtedly the Damascus blade. Three knife makers – a brief introduction
Benjamin Laraud
In 2014, Benjamin Laraud came to Thiers to learn knife making from scratch. After working for GDD and Fontenille Pataud, he founded his brand Laraud Blades in 2023.
His first model, the L'Oegopsyde, is sleek, elegant and fluid like an octopus in motion. This was followed by the MagnaPinna, a slip joint knife with a smooth, rounded shape. Both knives are handmade and bear Benjamin's distinctive signature.
Benjamin Hée
Around five years ago, Benjamin Hée began forging at the foot of the Causse Noir. His first kitchen knives quickly sparked a passion that eventually became his craft. Today, he crafts handmade chef’s knives and folding knives, primarily with liner locks, and is currently expanding his collection to include slip-joint models. In doing so, he uses both his own hand-forged Damascus steel and high-quality Damascus steel from Achim Wirtz.
Every knife is unique and reflects the quality of the materials and craftsmanship.
Roland Lannier
In 2014, Roland Lannier left the Perceval forge and opened his own workshop in Thiers. His first model, ‘Why so serious’, immediately won a talent award.
This was followed by the Heeled Jack, an elegant slip joint knife. Roland Lannier also produces handmade table knives that are highly regarded in top-class gastronomy – each with distinctive handle materials and a personal touch.
Marie Taillardat
In 2013, Marie Taillardat began her training at Atelier Perceval and founded her own company, Coutellerie Marie Taillardat, in 2020.
Her first creation, the 1925 model, is a tribute to her grandfather and is still handmade today.
This was followed by the 1925 BB, a compact version – also carefully crafted by hand and bearing Marie's personal signature.
