Max Capdebarthes is a master leather craftsman located in the tiny (pop. 800) 12th-century village of Sauveterre de Rouergue in the south west of France. Each sheath is made from carefully selected genuine cowhide. Mr. Max Capdebarthes is considered by most knife manufacturers as the best leather craftsman in Europe, perhaps the world. About this casket: There are two drawers, one drawer can can accomodate 6 knives. The casket is made of exclusive leather. The caskets are available in the colours maya and black. Outer dimensions: 8 cm x 18 cm x 29 cm, two drawers Consider this: Max Capdebarthes only works with full grain leather which is the highest quality grade of leather money can buy. This leather type comes from the top layer of the hide and includes all of the natural grain and natural marks. It is more expensive to buy and more difficult for to work with, as a result this is reflected in the cost to the consumer. Break-In period: Your new sheath may appear to be a little stiff at first, this is normal. As full grain leather ages it will adapt to the shape of your knife. Over time, the sheath will develop a much sought-after patina and a unique character that cannot be duplicated. The more you use it, the better it will look and feel.100% made in France
The Sauveterre knife was designed by Henri Viallon from a model of a knife from the Aveyron region of the nineteenth century. The distinctive feature of this knife is a leaf-shaped blade reminiscent of a sage leaf and a sage leaf on the nib. The handle of this elegant knife is a combination of ebon and buffalo bone. The special feature of this model is the centred mitres, which shows a sage plant. The taut back spring is forged and decorated by hand. It ends in a guilloche sage leaf. The blade is made of high-performance 14C28N stainless steel. For easier opening of the knife, the blade is equipped with a nail cut. The Sauveterre, bears the name of a village in Aveyron where the forge is located. Founded around 1241, Sauveterre de Rouergue, a medieval village considered one of the most beautiful villages in France, is a beautiful 13th century bastide built around the "Place des Arcades". Guy Vialis was the founder of the SAUVETERRE brand. After his death, Chrsitian Valat is now the current owner of the small "SAUVETERRE" forge. Monsieur Valat is also the owner of the world-famous Laguiole en Aubrac forge. scales: buffalo bone - ebony 11 cmcentred mitres guillochéguilloche spring blade 14C28N stainless steel 90 mm, matt finishknife opened 205 mmweight: 86 gram 100% made in France

Three knife makers – a brief introduction
Benjamin Laraud
In 2014, Benjamin Laraud came to Thiers to learn knife making from scratch. After working for GDD and Fontenille Pataud, he founded his brand Laraud Blades in 2023.
His first model, the L'Oegopsyde, is sleek, elegant and fluid like an octopus in motion. This was followed by the MagnaPinna, a slip joint knife with a smooth, rounded shape. Both knives are handmade and bear Benjamin's distinctive signature.
Benjamin Hée
Around five years ago, Benjamin Hée began forging at the foot of the Causse Noir. His first kitchen knives quickly sparked a passion that eventually became his craft. Today, he crafts handmade chef’s knives and folding knives, primarily with liner locks, and is currently expanding his collection to include slip-joint models. In doing so, he uses both his own hand-forged Damascus steel and high-quality Damascus steel from Achim Wirtz.
Every knife is unique and reflects the quality of the materials and craftsmanship.
Roland Lannier
In 2014, Roland Lannier left the Perceval forge and opened his own workshop in Thiers. His first model, ‘Why so serious’, immediately won a talent award.
This was followed by the Heeled Jack, an elegant slip joint knife. Roland Lannier also produces handmade table knives that are highly regarded in top-class gastronomy – each with distinctive handle materials and a personal touch.
Marie Taillardat
In 2013, Marie Taillardat began her training at Atelier Perceval and founded her own company, Coutellerie Marie Taillardat, in 2020.
Her first creation, the 1925 model, is a tribute to her grandfather and is still handmade today.
This was followed by the 1925 BB, a compact version – also carefully crafted by hand and bearing Marie's personal signature.
