COUPERIER Cursolle cutlery in Thiers

It all began in the 17th century, when the so-called SUJETS were still made individually. Artists carved their handle scales with motifs of rural life or famous personalities in ivory or bone handle scales. For the rural population, however, these customised products were prohibitively expensive.

In 1902, Léon COURSOLLE presented a new type of knife. With the help of a new technique, he was able to produce the small pocket knives by stamping the motifs into brass handle scales using bronze moulds. This made it possible to make the knives accessible to a wider range of customers. He became the French creator of the SUJET knife theme.

Jean-Marc COUPERIER took over the family business in 1988 and, while continuing to manufacture "le Coursolle", developed new products. Always associated with the work in solid brass, which has been the unmistakable hallmark of COUPERIER COURSOLLE products for years.
