Robert Klaas Flaschen-Erl mammoth molar stainless damascus blade

Handcrafted in Solingen – ‘Flaschen-Erl’ pocket knife with handle scales made from mammoth molar and a stainless Balbach Damascus blade

In the 1950s, Robert Klaas created the ‘Flaschen-Erl’ design, inspired by a bottle of brown fizzy drink that had been invented 70 years earlier and had gained worldwide fame. The 2022 annual knife is based on an ink drawing from the Klaas sample book that is at least 60 years old.

The handle scales are crafted from a fossilised mammoth molar, approximately 10,000 years old, sourced from the Siberian permafrost. The knife features matt nickel silver bolsters and brass plates. The Damascus blade made from DSC® inox superclean (stainless) with a rose Damascus pattern is a real eye-catcher. The Damascus blade from Markus Balbach has 640 layers, a very fine steel structure and high edge retention (HRC62).

The thumb stud allows the delicate slip-joint knife to be opened with ease.

The Robert KLAAS manufactory is one of the oldest companies in the blade city of Solingen, of which it is very proud.

The company is still a family business today, now in its seventh generation. For more than 180 years, Robert KLAAS has been producing the most perfect and durable cutlery possible by hand in Solingen in the traditional way.

The brands ‘Störche’ and ‘Hahn & Henne’ are known all over the world, especially in the USA, where the trademarks ‘Kissing Cranes’ and ‘Hen & Rooster’ are synonymous with the best pocket knives. Quality, tradition and honest craftsmanship are still an incentive, obligation and challenge for the KLAAS company today.
